Data processing platform in the new release of ComFit
We took part in rewriting of ComFit Data Processing Platform, which helps the distributors to meet the drug side effect monitoring requirements.
The client and the industry
ComFit Europe Ltd. is a Hungarian data processing and analyzing company in the healthcare and medical field, serving the entire territory of the European Union. Their goal is to provide accurate and relevant information to their clients – pharmaceutical distributors – thus ensuring their legal compliance.
The data processing platform’s goal
We have created a new data processing platform for ComFit that allows structured recording of data appearing in medical journals, with a particular focus on adverse drug reactions. Our development functions as a two-sided marketplace where pharmaceutical distributors can purchase all the relevant data, and they can meet the EU reporting obligations as well as by subscribing to medical journal.
The well-structured previous database allowed for an easy search and analysis of adverse drug reactions. Based on this database, users could create queries and reports, thus supporting drug safety processes.
The product was originally developed for the Hungarian market, but the company decided to enter the international market later. So, the initial code base was no longer sustainable, and they asked our company to deliver the necessary software solution. From the very first steps we were building a product which successfully eliminates all the non-functional issues of the previous version and is prepared for the volume of the international market.

Challenges of rewriting
During the rewriting, we had to consider many complex factors, such as handling of measurement units and time zones, which can fundamentally affect the operation of a system. Rewriting of a codebase can be necessary not only because of user interface updates, but also because of changing business and technology requirements, especially [non-functional requirements] that may lead to an unsustainable state.
Our goal was to create such a technological environment which ensures long-term system stability, scalability, and sustainability, even for decades.
The data processing platform’s solution and results
During this project, we gained significant experience in rewriting software products, which typically becomes necessary when the previous code base becomes unmaintainable, the development background is ended, or the product development reaches a certain level when the existing technological solutions no longer effectively support further expansion.
The product we rewrote became suitable for use in an international environment, in multiple languages, ensuring that activities related to local journals published within the EU can be recorded at an appropriate speed.
