Our client approached us with the aim of creating a product that maximizes the yield of tomato plants by considering the biological model of their growth. This requires extremely accurate measurements. If we can accurately monitor the plant weight and the nutrient uptake rates, then we can optimize the supply and focus on the generative processes and growth of the plants primarily. We developed Gremon Trutina system along this principle.
To help farmers in maximizing crop yield, the system provides feedback by optimizing the amount of nutrient supply and taking into account additional factors such as temperature and sunlight. By making data visual, it became possible to analyze the tomato plants’ behavior in different areas of the greenhouse, which allows further optimization in plant cultivation.
A major challenge was in the development to find the right mathematical model while eliminating environmental impacts, such as data filtering coming from the scales. For example, the wind movements in Spanish semi-open greenhouses meant a potential disturbing factor, because the wind may distort the measurement data, as the scales perceive it as a weight fluctuation. Therefore, the system had to be designed to be sufficiently resilient to such external influences.
