InterSystems IRIS expertise for complex digital systems

AENSys develops reliable, data-driven software solutions built on InterSystems IRIS for complex business and healthcare environments.

Our IRIS-based products support critical data management, system integration, healthcare interoperability, and secure digital operations – helping organisations build scalable solutions around their most important workflows.

Digital prescription management

The solution enables healthcare professionals to issue prescriptions electronically and makes them available for fulfilment at pharmacies. Patients can collect prescribed medication themselves or authorise another person to do so.

Prescriptions can be reviewed and managed digitally, including both those awaiting fulfilment and those that have already been dispensed. Users can filter their prescription history by selected time periods, making previous and current prescriptions easier to find.

The solution also helps healthcare professionals obtain a clearer overview of a patient’s medication history. Prescribers can correct or withdraw prescriptions when necessary, while relevant professionals can review information such as dispensed medication, quantities and possible substitutions.

Digital referral management

The referral functionality supports communication between the referring professional and the healthcare provider responsible for the examination or treatment. Relevant medical history, previous results and the purpose of the referral can be made available as part of the workflow.

Receiving institutions can review incoming referrals before the patient arrives and prepare for the requested care. Where capacity is available, appointment booking can also be connected to the referral process.

Patients can review their referrals in one place and filter them by date, healthcare provider and status, including newly created, booked, completed, expired or cancelled referrals.

Fine-grained document access control

For an organisation, we contributed to the delivery of functionality that allows patients to manage how their healthcare information may be accessed and used.

The fine-grained document access control solutionion provides several levels of access configuration. Patients can retain the default access rules, apply simplified restrictions, define detailed permissions or prevent general access to their healthcare information.

Detailed settings can be created according to factors such as:

  • the healthcare professional requesting access;

  • the type of clinical document;

  • the medical category concerned;

  • the organisation that created the information.

Patients can define exceptions to broader permission rules and can provide a selected healthcare professional with temporary access for a specified day. Emergency situations and certain active healthcare workflows may be handled as exceptions to standard restrictions.

The solution also supports the management of personal contact information, including an email address for notifications and the telephone number of a person to contact in an emergency.

Patients can choose to receive notifications when new prescriptions, referrals or clinical documents are created. An activity log provides an overview of actions involving their healthcare information, including when an action occurred, who performed it, the organisation involved, the type of operation and the affected documents.

Delegated access can also be recorded and managed. Patients can review authorised representatives, the purpose and type of representation, its validity period and its current status.

Profile-management solution

As part of a digital healthcare project for a national healthcare organisation, we contributed to the delivery of a centralised patient health profile that brings together important clinical information in one accessible location.

The profile-management solution focuses on healthcare data that changes rarely or remains relevant over a longer period. It can include information recorded by treating physicians, primary care professionals and other authorised healthcare providers.

The profile may contain information such as:

  • blood type;

  • allergies and medication sensitivities;

  • chronic conditions;

  • current medication;

  • pregnancy-related information;

  • implanted medical devices;

  • participation in ongoing care programmes;

  • previous surgical procedures.

The information can represent long-term events, conditions or interventions that continue to affect the patient’s health. It can also include temporary information that remains relevant to care until a defined point in time.

Bringing these details together helps healthcare professionals find important information without relying exclusively on the patient’s memory or ability to communicate their full medical history. This can be especially important during emergency care, but the information can also support routine treatment whenever it may influence clinical decisions.

The solution therefore provides a structured overview of essential patient information that can support more informed and better-prepared healthcare delivery.

Healthcare event catalogue

The event catalogue provides patients with an overview of examinations and care events created across different parts of the healthcare system. These may include events from outpatient and inpatient care, emergency departments, primary care, laboratories and radiology services.

Users can search for historical healthcare events by selecting a start and end date. This makes it possible to review previous care episodes and locate information even years after an examination took place.

Clinical document management

Healthcare providers can upload documents created during patient care and make them available through a structured digital interface.

Supported document categories can include:

  • discharge summaries and outpatient records;

  • laboratory, microbiology and pathology reports;

  • CT, MRI and other diagnostic imaging reports;

  • surgical and procedural documentation;

  • referrals and specialist recommendations;

  • emergency medical service records;

  • screening and assessment forms;

  • oncology-related records;

  • pregnancy assessments;

  • vaccination and diagnostic test records.

Documents are stored in an organised form and can be retrieved by both patients and relevant healthcare professionals. Searches can be filtered by date, document type or document identifier.

The solution can also notify patients when a new healthcare document becomes available, helping them stay informed about newly issued reports, test results and other records related to their care.
